Sustainable Fabrics at Arachné Brussels: GOTS and OEKO-TEX® 100 Certifications

What is GOTS?

GOTS is the world’s leading standard for textiles made from organic fibers. It guarantees that the fabrics are made of at least 70% certified organic fibers and that the entire production chain — from harvesting to weaving, including dyeing — meets strict ecological standards: grown without the use of pesticides, insecticides, or chemical fertilizers. In the case of cotton : the cultivation methods and absence of chemical treatments mean that organic cotton requires significantly less water. The cultivation of this organic cotton is respectful of the surrounding biodiversity.

Arachné mainly selects fabrics that are GOTS certified, as provided by its supplier. This guarantees traceability, environmentally sound practices, and ethical working conditions from the field to the finished fabric.

What is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100?

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certifies that textiles are free from harmful substances and safe for human use. In the case of Arachné, which uses printed fabrics, the OEKO-TEX® certification guarantees that the textile printing techniques are environmentally friendly : 

• Positive ecological impact and 95% higher production efficiency compared to traditional printing methods
  
  

• Printed organic fabrics are GOTS-certified. The certification also proves respect for the natural environment and workers' rights at every stage
  
  

• On-demand printing helps minimize textile waste during production
  
  

• The textiles used for printing are cotton-based and produced locally. Pigment inks comply with GOTS 6.0, are OEKO-TEX® 100 certified (Classes I and II), and offer high resistance to light, washing, and wet rubbing. Organic textiles are certified both GOTS and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. Printed fabrics and knits made from conventional cotton are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified (Class I)
