About

Arachné is a Brussels-based fashion house specialising in prints

Emmanuel Muraille

When one is both a naturalist painter and a passionate couturier, the idea of combining these two worlds might seem bold. However, this is precisely what Emmanuel Muraille achieved by creating a women's fashion line exclusively composed of nature-inspired prints. This Brussels native has opened a boutique and an atelier in the Passage du Nord galleries, a remarkable example of late 19th-century eclectic style. The creator of Arachné offers a unique concept that blends art and craftsmanship.

Sustainable

Arachné use natural fabrics such as cotton, linen and silk, with a preference for organic cotton and certified GOATS (certification for organic fabrics) and OEKO TEX® 100 (chemical-free control).

Couture

All the models are designed and crafted by hand in the workshop above the showroom. We also offer a made-to-measure service, available both in-store and by appointment.

Why Arachné

In ancient times, weavers were the craftsmen who created clothes. Greek mythology tells us that Arachne excelled at weaving, so much so that she was challenged by the goddess Athena. Arachne won the challenge. But Athena would not admit defeat and drove the young girl to suicide. Then, overcome with remorse, she gave her a second life in the form of a spider so that she could continue weaving.
This tragic story - as is often the case in mythology - highlights an artisanal activity with which the creator of Arachné Brussels identifies, a universal craft that is becoming increasingly rare in the age of fast fashion.

Why Brussels

In Brussels, ecological policies focusing on transportation and environmental protection are implemented for the common good. The city can proudly claim the title of the greenest capital in Europe. Public authorities encourage and even subsidize innovative private initiatives. Furthermore, Brussels is a multicultural hub, with over 180 languages spoken. It's the ideal location for Arachne projects.
